TradingView Ideas on XAUUSD: why public chart ideas mislead beginners, and what a full trade plan adds

"Generic praise: 'Great analysis, thanks for sharing!' — repeated under hundreds of different tickers." That line is not from a critic of TradingView. It is from a TradingView idea on XAUUSD itself, published on 21 October 2025 by a user called Rendon1, under the title "Are AI Comments Taking Over TradingView". The author's worry was simple: "it becomes harder to tell whether you're learning from real traders".
Plenty of beginners use the Ideas stream under the gold chart as a shortcut. Google's UK autocomplete for "tradingview xauusd" includes "ideas", and UK searches for "gbpjpy tradingview ideas" rose 2,050% in the past year (Google Trends, 12 months to October 2026). People are not looking for theory. They want to know what someone else thinks gold will do next.
The short answer: TradingView Ideas are a useful public notebook of how other traders read gold, and a poor substitute for a trade plan. An idea shows a view. A plan says where to get in, where you are wrong, what to do at each target, how much to trade for your account and what it costs. Read ideas to learn. Do not trade them as they stand.
Quick answer: TradingView Ideas on XAUUSD are free charts and notes published by other users. They are good for seeing different ways to read gold, but the format does not require a position size for your account, trading costs, a step-by-step exit or a record of what happened next, and comments can be low quality. A full trade plan adds those fields. TradingView Ideas are the better choice for learning how others annotate a chart. Systemly is the better choice when you want a checked plan for your own account, drawn on a live chart, or an honest "no trade".
Systemly publishes this comparison. We have tried to be fair, and every TradingView fact below is sourced and dated 13 October 2026.
What a TradingView idea is, and what the rules ask of it
TradingView is a charting platform used, it says, by "100M+ traders and investors worldwide" (TradingView about). An idea is a chart snapshot with a written note, published to the community. Ideas are public, and the ones under the XAUUSD symbol page are drawn on many feeds, including IC:XAUUSD, TVC:GOLD, FX:XAUUSD and CAPITALCOM:XAUUSD, while the page's own chart uses OANDA (TradingView XAUUSD page).
TradingView does moderate quality. Ideas are "unsuggested", which means dropped from feeds, when they are written mostly in capitals, contain "very little or no analysis", or say only "LONG" or "BUY" with no reasoning (TradingView support on unsuggested ideas). That is a sensible floor. It is a floor for analysis, though, not for a tradeable plan.
The House Rules add two more things a gold trader should know (TradingView House Rules):
- "All content has to be free from promotion", and published content must not include "links or references to any website, social media, messaging or email contacts". But "The only exception to this rule is for Premium subscribers". In other words, an idea from a Premium account may point you somewhere else.
- No rule explicitly names "signals" or "guaranteed profits". The nearest is Rule 8: "Never share harmful, misleading, unrelated or inappropriate content."
That Premium exception matters because of where gold searches go next. Google's UK autocomplete for "tradingview signals" includes "telegram" (Google autocomplete). An idea can be the top of a funnel that ends in a paid channel, the same pattern we found with TikTok forex influencers. That is allowed for Premium users, and it is not wrong in itself, but you should know when you are reading an advert for a service rather than a free note.
Why public ideas mislead beginners
The common mistake is to read an idea as an instruction. The consequence is a trader who copies the arrow, guesses a stop, picks a lot size that feels right and enters hours after the idea was written, on a different feed. Think of it like overhearing someone give directions to a friend. The directions may be perfect for the friend, who started from a different street at a different time.
Five specific problems follow.
- The feed is not yours. One prop-firm education blog puts typical gaps at $0.20 to $0.60 between two spot gold brokers, and at $1.00 to $2.00 or more between spot and COMEX futures (ForTraders). An idea drawn on another broker's feed, or on a futures chart, can therefore sit a meaningful distance from your broker's price, which is a large slice of a tight gold stop. Our TradingView XAUUSD feed guide works through the numbers.
- The time is not yours. An idea written at 08:00 New York time is 13:00 UK and 16:00 Dubai in summer. By the time you read it, gold may already be at the target or the stop. Our guide to TradingView time zone settings for UK and Dubai traders shows how to read the timestamps.
- The size is missing. A view on gold says nothing about what a $5 move costs on your account. Size depends on your balance, your broker's contract and your risk.
- The exit is vague. "Target the previous high" does not tell you whether to close all of it, half of it, or move the stop.
- The comments are not a check. If the replies are "Great analysis, thanks for sharing!", they tell you nothing about whether the idea worked.
There is a quieter problem too. Ideas that look good are easy to share, and ideas that went wrong are easy to forget. We could not find anything in the publishing rules we read that asks authors to come back and log the result. The reader sees a stream of confident charts and no scoreboard, which fails the first test in what makes a forex signal good.
Anatomy: what an idea contains, and what a full plan adds
This table compares the fields that TradingView's rules require of an idea with the fields of a Systemly plan. The Systemly column is a generic description of its fields, not a claimed trade.
- Market and feed: Typical public idea on XAUUSD: Any feed the author chose; A full trade plan (Systemly's fields): Live price bars; data refused if stale or gapped
- Direction and reasoning: Typical public idea on XAUUSD: Required (some analysis); A full trade plan (Systemly's fields): "Why this trade", one tap from the chart
- Entry: Typical public idea on XAUUSD: Often shown on the chart; A full trade plan (Systemly's fields): Entry drawn, with when to wait and when to get in
- Stop, and when the idea is wrong: Typical public idea on XAUUSD: Sometimes shown; A full trade plan (Systemly's fields): Always shown, with the move that ends the plan
- What to do at each target: Typical public idea on XAUUSD: Rarely spelled out; A full trade plan (Systemly's fields): Step by step, for example "close half and move your stop loss to your entry"
- Position size for your account: Typical public idea on XAUUSD: Not part of the format; A full trade plan (Systemly's fields): Lot size printed, with one money figure
- Trading cost: Typical public idea on XAUUSD: Not part of the format; A full trade plan (Systemly's fields): Included in the money figure at the stop
- News inside the trade's life: Typical public idea on XAUUSD: Up to the author; A full trade plan (Systemly's fields): News warning if a major release is due
- When there is no trade: Typical public idea on XAUUSD: Rarely published; A full trade plan (Systemly's fields): "No trade" with the failed checks listed
- Record afterwards: Typical public idea on XAUUSD: Not required; A full trade plan (Systemly's fields): Tracked after it is sent; losses logged
- Range of opinions: Typical public idea on XAUUSD: Many authors and styles, free; A full trade plan (Systemly's fields): One method, applied the same way each time
- Your own creativity: Typical public idea on XAUUSD: Full freedom to annotate; A full trade plan (Systemly's fields): Fixed, opinionated layout
The last two rows are where Ideas win. If you want ten different readings of the same gold chart, the Ideas stream gives you that for free, and a plan tool never will.
Worked example: turning a gold idea into a plan
Here is an illustrative idea, invented for this example: "XAUUSD long from the 1H demand zone. Stop below the zone. Target the previous high, then the weekly high." The chart shows the stop $5.00 below the entry, the first target $5.00 above and the second $10.00 above.
Now turn it into a plan for a £1,000 account. The pound rate is an assumed illustrative rate, and the contract terms and spread are assumptions to check with your broker.
- Account in dollars: £1,000 at an assumed illustrative $1.34 to the pound is $1,340. A 1% risk budget is $13.40.
- Contract: assume 1 standard lot is 100 ounces, so $1 is worth $100 per lot.
- Loss on 1.00 lot over the $5.00 stop: $5.00 × 100 = $500.
- Lots: $13.40 ÷ $500 = 0.0268. Round down to 0.02, because rounding up to 0.03 would risk $15.00, about 1.1%.
- Risk at 0.02 lots: 0.02 × $500 = $10.00, about 0.75% of $1,340.
- Cost: assume a $0.30 spread. On 0.02 lots that is $0.30 × 100 × 0.02 = $0.60. Risk including cost at the stop is $10.60, about 0.79%.
For a reader in Dubai, at the official peg of AED 3.6725 to the US dollar, the $13.40 budget is about AED 49 and the $10.60 risk about AED 39.
Then the exits. The first target is $5.00 away, the same as the stop, so it is a 1-to-1 move. Closing half (0.01 lots) there would bank 0.01 × 100 × $5.00 = $5.00 before costs. Moving the stop to entry on the other half means the worst case for the rest of the trade is roughly the cost of the spread. The second target at $10.00 would add another 0.01 × 100 × $10.00 = $10.00 on the remaining half if it is reached.
Not one of those numbers was in the idea. That is not a criticism of the author. A view on gold is a different product from a plan for your account. To run the sizing on your own numbers, use the free Risk Doctor tool, and for more on what signals leave out, see position sizing, the part signals leave out.
How to read a TradingView idea without being misled
Use this checklist before you act on any idea under the gold chart.
- Check the feed in the symbol name, and compare it with your broker's XAUUSD.
- Check the time it was published, and convert it to UK or Dubai time.
- Find the stop. If there is none, the idea is a view, not a trade.
- Work out the size for your own account before anything else.
- Ask what you would do at the first target: close all, close some, or move the stop.
- Check the economic calendar for US data or the Fed inside the trade's life.
- Look for links or references to outside channels, and treat them as adverts.
- Ignore comment counts and generic praise. Look for authors who show losing ideas too.

Where TradingView Ideas are the better choice
Ideas are free, varied and often excellent. They are one of the best places to see how experienced traders annotate structure, sessions and news on a gold chart, and to compare approaches you would never meet in one course. TradingView's Pine Script community alone "has published more than 150,000 Community Scripts, half of which are open-source" (Pine Script docs), and the same openness runs through Ideas.
They are the better choice if you want to learn by comparing many points of view, if you want to publish your own analysis and get feedback, or if you trade markets that a plan tool does not cover. And a well-written idea with a clear stop and reasoning is a good model of how to think out loud about a trade.
What a full plan adds, and where Systemly fits
Systemly (systemly.ai) is a UK-built forex and gold trade-planning app that turns live price data into a complete trade plan, with entry, stop, targets, position size and plain-English reasoning, and teaches the terms in a built-in academy of 32 courses. It reads live price bars, never a screenshot, and fixed rules check the AI's plan: the server repairs the target ladder, sets a floor under the stop width and recomputes the confidence score. "The AI reads the chart. The code owns the trade."
On a gold plan, the trade is drawn on a full-screen live chart, and the numbered moves card says when to wait, when to get in, where a dip may come, what to do at each target and when the plan is wrong. One money figure, at the printed lot size, includes cost at the stop, and an account-size warning appears if the risk looks too large. Systemly never quotes odds on gold.
Three habits answer the problems above. First, if the strategy's checks fail, the answer is "no trade", with the failed checks listed, and a "no trade" never counts in any performance figure. Second, scanning the same market and style again within 15 minutes reopens the last answer for free, unless a major release for its currencies has come out since, so there is no rolling the dice for a different view. Third, since 6 October 2026 a limit, stop or wait-for-close entry settles nothing until price actually fills it, and every plan is tracked afterwards, with losses logged like any other.
If you want the community side of Ideas without losing the plan, the Systemly community feed shows real Systemly plans, and the full plan needs a free login. Before risking money on any plan, you can place it as a paper trade at a balance you set, on every plan including free, with real spreads and costs. And if you keep TradingView as your main chart, Starter and above can export a plan to TradingView as a Pine Script.
How we compared
We read TradingView's House Rules, its support page on unsuggested ideas, the XAUUSD symbol page and a TradingView idea about AI comments, all checked on 13 October 2026. We compared the fields TradingView's rules require of an idea with the fields of a Systemly plan, as described in Systemly's October 2026 product notes. Search data comes from our own Google Trends and autocomplete research. The worked example uses invented, illustrative levels and stated assumptions.
FAQ
Are TradingView ideas on XAUUSD reliable?
Some are thoughtful and some are not, and the format does not tell you which. TradingView drops ideas with little or no analysis from its feeds, but it does not require a position size, costs or a record of the outcome. Treat an idea as one trader's view, check its feed and timing, and build your own plan before acting on it.
Can I copy a TradingView idea as a trade?
You can, but it is risky to do so directly. An idea is drawn on the author's feed at the author's time, and it usually leaves out your position size, trading costs and what to do at each target. Convert it into a full plan first: check the stop, size it for your account and decide your exits before you enter.
Why do TradingView ideas use different XAUUSD symbols?
Each author chooses a feed. The XAUUSD page itself uses OANDA, while ideas on it are drawn on IC:XAUUSD, TVC:GOLD, FX:XAUUSD, CAPITALCOM:XAUUSD and others. These are different brokers or composites, so their highs and lows differ slightly. Always redraw an idea's levels on the feed closest to your own broker.
Can TradingView ideas link to Telegram groups?
TradingView's House Rules ban promotion and links to outside websites, social media or messaging contacts, with one exception: Premium subscribers. So an idea from a Premium account may refer you elsewhere. That is allowed, but treat any such link as an advert for a service and judge the service on its own record.
What does a full trade plan include that an idea does not?
A full plan includes an entry and when to take it, a stop and the move that proves the trade wrong, what to do at each target, a position size for your account, the trading cost, any news due during the trade, and a record afterwards. An idea usually shows a direction and some levels. The missing fields are the ones a beginner is left to guess.
Does Systemly publish ideas like TradingView?
Not in the same way. Systemly produces plans rather than opinions. Its community feed shows real Systemly plans, and the full plan needs a free login. Each plan is tracked after it is sent, losses are logged, and a "no trade" answer is never counted in any performance figure. The feed shows plans, not a headline percentage.
